"Personalities rise up from the page."
Ray Palla’s SIMPLE TRIPLE STANDARD is about radio, Texas, the music scene, and a city called Austin that’s as famous for bringing out the craziness of all three as it is for being a stomping ground for colorful politicians.

Ray is a natural storyteller who writes about the 40 years between the slow waltz away from AM and its big-voiced fast talking deejays to satellite and digital where anybody picks favorites for everybody. He uses his own experiences in the newsrooms and on the streets of the Texas Capital and that huge piece of real estate between Houston and San Antonio to capture times and the larger-than-life personalities that have kept the bubbling crucible of Austin, Texas spinning out musical and cultural influences nonstop since the early ‘70s.

SIMPLE TRIPLE STANDARD is more than just another “See what happened was” story about rednecks, long necks and college interns. It’s a tale spun from the heart that brings it all together and makes the personalities rise up from the page and either blow smoke in your eyes or up your … In other words, it’s a good read.

"A brimming time capsule of '70s Austin nostalgia."
Austin, Texas is a liberal jewel in a very conservative state and a great place to live, then and now. Ray Palla has captured the essence, sounds, and personalities of the radio wars, music, and people in the early 1970s, who really started Austin on the path to being the world-class hub of culture that it has become. I know because I was lucky enough to be a deejay at Progressive Country KOKE-FM, 'Super Roper Radio,' from 1973-1976.

The Kris Kristofferson story that Ray tells in STS is absolutely, 100% true ... I was there! Some of the names have been changed to protect the innocent/guilty and there is some artistic license taken with a few of the events and dates, but all-in-all, Palla tells it like it really was when Austin's unique culture was sowing its oats. SIMPLE TRIPLE STANDARD is a truly entertaining read, you won't be able to put it down.

“Relatable personalities.”
Ray Palla has created a real original gem in his SIMPLE TRIPLE STANDARD. Although it’s an 'almost true' story about the evolution of modern commercial radio, there are many references that had me nodding and grinning as if I remembered the facts myself!

Ray involves the reader in daily life and passions, giving us detailed accounts from an insider’s perspective. He keeps it fresh and entertaining as we see different relatable personalities, including some current ‘big names,’ ...but I won’t give it away. A fun read from the author of KRILL AMERICA, worth every minute!

"A fascinating, humble player on a huge stage."
Ray Palla has created a truly interesting voice in his main character, Bryant L Herman. His insight is unique. His view into the past is fascinating. His position as a humble player on a huge stage is refreshing. Following Bryant through the world of radio so many years ago grabbed my attention and was truly entertaining.

I highly recommend SIMPLE TRIPLE STANDARD as a wonderful read.

"A well paced great read."
SIMPLE TRIPLE STANDARD keeps you intrigued and interested from the start. The plot has its own 'simple triple standard' in the story line, which is both entertaining, and offers an educational twist with historically plausible accounts of the radio industry.

I honestly liked reading this novel and am already looking forward to the next Ray Palla book.

"Intriguing world of memories and radio."
This is the second book by Ray Palla and I have been waiting with great anticipation for it to be released. I have to say that I was not disappointed! SIMPLE TRIPLE STANDARD was completely different than his first book KRILL AMERICA, but Ray Palla drew me into the world of radio just as quickly as Krill America drew me into the life of Krill fishing.

Being an Austinite myself, there were many references to places and people that brought back memories of the Austin I grew up in. I thoroughly enjoyed the read and will anxiously await the next book by this intriguing author.
